In the first DLC wave, Sub-Zero joins exiled Tamaran princess Starfire and Jason Todd’s (the second Robin, killed by Joker then brought back to life) gun-toting vigilante Red Hood. He retains his light damage gameplay and he is still a defensive fighter, so MK fans will be familiar with him, but he still has a different feel to him which makes him more appealing to play. The inclusion of the Mortal Kombat character shouldn’t come as a surprise since NetherRealm also handles the development of that franchise, with MK co-creator Ed Boon at the helm as director. You can't pin a player down with an ice klone anymore since the ice klone will not form if Sub-Zero performs the move too close to his opponent and he needs meter in order to freeze his opponent from long range so his game plan has changed quite a bit from his MKX appearance. Much like Scorpion in the original Injustice, Sub-Zero has been toned down from his usual MK appearance but he is a lot of fun to play in Injustice 2. The meter burn will cause Sub-Zero to make two klones as he flips backwards.

One unique aspect of Sub-Zero's character trait is that he can actually meter burn the ice klone when making one. Sub-Zero can throw the klone or shatter it with an ice burst to make the clone hit his opponent. If the opponent comes into contact with the klone, they will get frozen in place as usual. Instead of immediately recharging, you'll have a bar that will showcase the amount of time you have to manipulate the ice klone after using the trait. The ice klone can be performed in the air and on the ground. Sub-Zero's ice klone is his character trait. Sub-Zero's ice burst remains the exact same as in MKX, his ice hammer can only be performed in the air now (downward overhead slam) and his polar puncture used to be a combo ender in MKX, but now it is a command grab where he will stab his opponent with an ice dagger. His slide remains about the same and meter burning the move will cause him to add an extra punch attack much like in MKX. When his ice ball is thrown out normally, it will take damage upon hit just like a normal projectile. Just like Scorpion in the original Injustice, Sub-Zero must meter burn his projectile in order for it to stun (freeze) his opponent. Sub-Zero has his usual ice ball and slide along with his ice burst, ice hammer and polar puncture grab. If you're familiar with his MKX style of gameplay, you'll be a bit familiar with this Sub-Zero since his overall move list is around the same.

One of the best parts about his look is that he has no pupils sort of like the Sub-Zero from the original MK movie so he has a very sinister stare. His overall outfit looks much like a slightly redesigned version of his original ninja outfit crossed over with his Blue Steel outfit from MKX. Sub-Zero has a remade appearance in Injustice 2 but overall his appearance is faithful to the MK games. The Sub-Zero in Injustice 2 is Kuai Liang and he plays similar to the Sub-Zero from MKX.

The original Sub-Zero (Bi-Han) was killed by Scorpion in the first MK game and then Bi-Han's brother Kuai Liang took up the mantle of Sub-Zero afterwards and has been the Sub-Zero we have known since then. Sub-Zero and Scorpion are the deadliest of adversaries and they're rivalry has spanned throughout all MK games. Sub-Zero! Along with having the best song by the Immortals on the original Mortal Kombat album, Sub-Zero is easily one of the most popular MK characters. Oh, Chinese ninja warrior, with your heart so cold. Sub-Zero is the second of the fighters released for the first Fighter Pack. The first three characters are Red Hood, StarFire and Sub-Zero. The fighter packs contain an additional three characters that are added to the roster for Injustice 2 and the fighter packs can be bought separately or the fighters inside of them can be bought one at a time. The Injustice 2 Ultimate Pack grants access to the first of the fighter packs for DLC characters as well as all other fighter packs.
